Walking Much Better
I was watching little Dallas move to the barn
to avoid rain that was coming down in buckets,
and I noticed that she is walking so much better!
She's just moving easier and her legs are positioned
differently, not so upright in the back. Thank
you my little natural hoof practitioner! Little
D is doing great.

Caring for Club
Foot
Molly, my filly, has a club foot. I have been
working closely with my farrier Pat Wagner since
2004. Pat has been trimming Molly every five weeks
and sometimes more often. Molly's feet are natural
and tough as nails. Pat suggested we put pea gravel
in Molly's paddock, which I did after much research.
The pea gravel is what toughened Molly's feet.
I love the pea gravel. Keeping her paddock clean
of manure is easier. Molly's hooves are doing
well and we have an excellent compost pile!

Give Your Horse the Benefits
of Natural Hoof Health
If your horse lived in the wild, its natural movement in the
environment in which it lived would keep its feet and hooves
conditioned and shaped for maximum comfort, traction and mobility.
Because domesticated horses are typically not as active as
horses in the wild, and live in essentially non-abrasive environments,
when their shoes are removed, it’s necessary to compensate
by regularly trimming and shaping their hooves to emulate
that natural process.
Your Horse Deserves Special Attention
Restoring your horse’s hooves to soundness and good
condition is more than simply a matter of removing its shoes
and providing a quick, one-size-fits-all trim. It's a process
that is tailored to meet your horse's particular health issues
and needs.
The process begins with a consultation with
you to discuss problems and possible solutions. Then your
horse and I get acquainted, to provide the opportunity to
study your horses unique nature and disposition. I take a
genuine interest in your horse to help determine an approach
that will be the most comfortable and effective for all concerned.
Rehabilitative and Maintenance Trims
Your horse’s hooves will be given a Set-Up Trim on my
first visit, which takes about an hour and a half. This trim
establishes the correct shape and angles for the hooves, and
is rehabilitative, to begin the healing process. Typically,
subsequent trims, which should be scheduled every five or
six weeks, are also largely rehabilitative, though they take
only about 45 minutes. You should begin to see marked improvements
in your horse’s performance and disposition after a
few visits. When the hooves are fully restored to health and
soundness, usually in about six months, it’s still very
important to continue maintenance trims and to maintain the
trim interval of every five to six weeks.
