Put Your Horse in the Hands
of a Gentle, Caring Practitioner
One warm afternoon Missy, a bay quarter horse, came limping
up to me from the pasture. She had torn off a front shoe and
much of her hoof wall. Healing that damage began a transition
in my thinking about what was “normal” for a domestic
horse, versus what was natural and healthy.
After extensive training in natural hoof care
I began trimming my horses' hooves. Soon friends and others
who saw the improvements in my horses' hooves asked me to
trim their horse's hooves. Seeing so many horses become healthier
with natural, barefoot hoof care led me to become a certified
practitioner. Several years later, in 2005, I launched Heel
First Landings.
Because I love and respect horses, and because
this type of work requires positioning myself in a horse's
"kick zone", I make time before each trim session
to introduce myself to each horse. I treat horses with respect
and sensitivity to gain their cooperation during trimming.
Heel First Landings Mission Statement
With my tools and my hands I will join forces with the healing
power of nature to practice my art with purity and respect
for every equine in my care. Pat
